Why Was The Vice Presidential Debate So Much Better Than The Actual Presidential Debate?

Is it just me, but after watching both the Presidential, and Vice Presidential debate back to back, I couldn’t help but notice the complete contrast in quality amongst the two?

On one hand you had a very civil debate, where the two candidates expressed their respect for each other throughout the time, and on the other you had what felt like a parody of a reality TV show argument.

I am not alone in noticing this. Throughout social media, it has been brought up how ironically the two vice presidential candidates look far more “presidential” than their running mates.

This does not mean that Vance and Walz did not disagree. It was not so much in how they didn’t necessarily found common grounds of everything, but the point in how even though they did not agree to most topics, they never let those disagreements stray them away from what they were having, a debate. Instead, they were able to get somewhere in the debate rather than just trying to tear the other side down.

I think this has been a very negative trend in the past recent elections. They feel less about why the candidates are best suited for the office, and more about why the other side is bad.

I often find myself watching old presidential debates(don’t call me weird), and the main one that comes to mind is the 2012 election with Obama and Romney. What sticks out is how friendly they were to each other. You almost forgot sometimes that you were watching a debate and not watching two friends discussing politics. Even though I am not saying all debates should be like this, I can’t help but what more cooperation rather than separation amongst candidates.

Although I am not able to vote yet, this is the future of my country, and I believe our debates are key to understanding the state our country will be in moving forward, and believe their should be more incentive for peaceful debates rather than what we are seeing.

What do you guys think?

Did you also notice these when you were watching the two elections?

Let me know in the comments!
